The Lovers’ Chronicle

Dear Muse,

i went round and round,
searched here and yon
’’For love and the one’’
no, well yes, but no,
for a song
to go with today’s theme
’’Ah of course, it’s not obvious’’
had to come in through the other door;
this is about choosin’ and for the longest,
i just did not care, bein’ without made me
open to, or not, and had the big or not
come along, i would have accepted
the ride, no questions asked
‘’I’m grateful it didn’t’’
moi aussi, but it took me awhile
to git to where it was easy to see
that i could choose to be,
‘’I think I see what’s coming’’,
when the verse and then you came
givin’ me somethin’ to believe in,
take it away Bret Michaels and Poison;
’’And give me something to believe in’’

this day began with a trip back in time and a discussion about stayin’ in solitude; as said earlier, Wolfe was right, and so was Faulkner, perhaps that is why you cannot go because the past is not past; made peace with the long ago, as for solitude, you know what they say, or should; you can dance with it but do not take it home; i chose and choose or

absolutely, or

moved on
from old ways, old means
not rippin’ off the rear view
just not hangin’ out there

a geographic wound
that used to stain
but no longer

an understandin’
it defines who you are
but what matters
is what you do with it

now that one is two
all done with, or not

could be or

everything remembered
walkin’ towards long ago

the heart aches where it was broken
and the hurt remembers its scars

but the body remembers the dance,
and the arms remember holdin’ on
and you remember the reason
you cared, gave so much

so you walk towards this

no trip back in time this year
to the place of birth and death
too far to drive, too much work
besides as i said before
Wolfe was right
you cannot go home again

have we not already established
here is the home we need,
the verse, the vision and us

hold on to this
we will be fine

well, or not
for sure

lookin’ back
it was kinda like
a homecomin’
and a farewell tour

i think i understand
what Wolfe meant

too much has changed
……

(your voice)
i was touched
and felt everything

lost, for certain
without any idea
what i was doin’

not sure why
i kept searchin’
just glad i did
because now
i am found
here with you

another mixed emotions trip
passin’ by landmarks
of birth and death
memories, both
happy and tragic,
compete for attention

affirmation, with a hug
and an i love you,
of a lifelong friendship
and new friendships
born of good whiskey
and keen conversation

evenin’ comes
with the tappin’ of kegs
and the band tunin’ up
cowboys two-steppin’
and twirlin’
their pretty women
across the floor

as the last tune fades
and the cowboys escort
their darlin’s to their trucks
to home, to love, to sleep
a solitary figure walks alone

the day closes
with the same question
with the approach of sleep,
soothin’ yet unsettled
so many spirits inhabit
this beloved place

but the question
that comes and haunts
this solitude
to do or not
to be or not

Yes, you!’’

for Gina

You looked so pretty,
Standin’ there on the corner
Nothin’ could have stopped me
From walkin’ up
And talkin’ to you

I knew we would fall,
Twice… and we did
Hard, both times

Too late……
Nothin’ has changed

All that is left
of what he wanted,
plays out in his dreams
All that he has left of her,
of what she wanted,
is in the wantin’

Cometh the hour,
cometh the man.

When your shoulders are two-feet wide,
a lot of stuff gets heaped on them.
I say; Is that all you got? Bring it

His thoughts would always
turn to her and the hope
that he held in his heart
that he would see her soon.

Today is the birthday of Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem (Haarlem, Dutch Republic 1 October 1620 – 18 February 1683 Amsterdam); Golden Age painter of pastoral landscapes, populated with mythological or biblical figures, but also of a number of allegories and genre pieces.  He was a member of the second generation of “Dutch Italianate landscape” painters; artists who travelled to Italy, or aspired to, in order to soak up the romanticism of the country, bringing home sketchbooks full of drawings of classical ruins and pastoral imagery.
