The Lovers’ Chronicle

Dear Muse,

perhaps my favorite day here
because of the song which we
agree to disagree about
“Smarmy throw away pop”
and i say one of the best
rock and roll ballads
there are two versions i dearly love;
the beautiful, hypnotic duet with
Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons,
and the hard rock Nazareth cover
the song was written by Boudleaux Bryant
and also covered by Roy Orbison and Cher
“They’re all fabulous and I forgive them”
the lyrics fit perfectly with our exploration
here of love and the pull between
those with and without it
and for the third year in a row
i can say, no it does not hurt

it can, if you take it for granted, if you have no respect for what it takes to git there and keep it, if you have not started with yourself, maybe worst, if you try to fake it or fool it; it will burn down the careless, it will take everything you have if you are weak, but, if you treat it right you will feel no pain

well it did for me
i never knew it that it did not
and most of the people i knew
but some do not know the hurt
that was part of the reason
why i started writin’ about
love and lovers

why do some seemin’ly
find it easily
why do others never
find it
what is the difference
between those with and without

it is fascinatin’
more so now that i can relate
and write about those with

Pale Love, Pale Rider

it does indeed

and the thoughts,
can be consumin’
once told and tried
but not to be

was it in the wantin’
too much
or was it just
how it goes down
for the soi disant poet

better
for havin’ been there
and you must go

how else to know
if they have
the required depth

it does certainly,
based on prior experience
that is all it does
good thing we are done
with that

for now, or for awhile
would suit fine
or not at all
however you will have it

as long as i git
exclusive rights
to the stories

the artistic, subtle pain

come out on the porch
and i will tell you
how it all went down
you know me,
a story teller
can never resist
an audience

romanced my way
from black tie nights
out at the opera
to mezcal mornin’s
in old cantinas

all the many
highways and blacktops
and old worn out trails
i traveled,
they all led me here

lost and found
myself along the way
and i came to know my demons,
and my particular salvation

so here i am on this porch,
midst the rollin’ plains of grass,
with twilight fast approachin’
it really all comes down to this
missin’ what never was

pull up a chair
and i will tell the tales

you drop me a note
make me laugh
make me miss you
more
than i thought possible
and then you are gone
payin’ the price i guess

i would give anything
to be in Joshua Tree
with you, listenin’
to Gram Parsons’
Grievous Angel

watch the desert sun set
make love under the big
star filled sky
and wait for first light
to appear
how i wish we were there

***

but you know,
feel free anytime
to drop in
make me need you
make me want you
and then just leave
*relationship status*

Stick to the plan, man
There ain’t no
Wantin’, wishin’, needin’

I will bare whatever hell
you want to dish out
just, please, spare me
the insipid platitudes

Fixin’ to see
What the echo
Sees in my heart

the echo showed
my heart to be
functionally normal
it also indicated
that it was
as cold as ice
and hard as an SOB,
but we knew that

yes! just made
a pretty woman laugh
dang; now my day
is downhill from here

“one word response please”
allright
“woman”
please
“heart”
hard
“moonlight”
dance
“sky”
big
“sin”
really?
“forgive”
done *walks away*

Dreamin’…
Drivin’ across the desert
With a Grievous Angel
Goin’ to Joshua Tree
Radio playin’ those
Hauntin’ duets

When we got there,
We could see the flames,
And feel the pain
In that hour of darkness,
All we could do
Was watch and grieve

I came
I saw
I kicked ass
Bring it

Difficult to explain,
But not;
Hard to believe,
Perhaps,
His wants:
To make her smile
To make her feel special
That is all

Rememberin’ you is good
out here amidst the hills
covered with snow
as my fiftieth year passes…

The song of the day is ‘’Love Hurts’’ by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, or the Nazareth version. Both are fabulous

Today is the birthday of Frank Eugene (Frank Eugene Smith; Manhattan 19 September 1865 – 16 December 1936 Munich); photographer who was a founding member of the Photo-Secession and one of the first university-level professors of photography in the world. More than any other photographer of the early 20th century, Eugene was recognized as the master of the manipulated image.

Autochrome of Eugene by Alfred Stieglitz, 1907

In 1913, he was appointed Royal Professor of Pictorial Photography by the Royal Academy of the Graphic Arts of Leipzig. This professorship, created especially for Eugene, is the first chair for pictorial photography anywhere in the world. Two years later Eugene gave up his U.S. citizenship and became a citizen of Germany. He continued teaching for many years and was head of the photography department at the Royal Academy until it closed in 1927.
