Dear Zazie Lee, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Bah humbug from all of us at TLC. Mac Tag is headed off to the mountains. Jett is spendin’ it with his kids. Me, I am stayin’ here at the ranch. Hope y’all have a great time celebratin’ whatever, however you choose. What are you waitin’ for? Rhett
Dear Muse,
no Christmas song for us
“Thank you”
i found a beautifully sad
song by Chris Isaak
“Oh he is fabulous”
but no more waitin’ for us
“We have done all we need to”
we have so much to explore
words, art, movies, places,
music, no time to waste
“That’s right lets go”
bon voyage y’all

guilty of writin’ more than my share of sentimental poetry, but never been one to git sappy over holidays, work still has to git done, stories need tellin’ no matter what the calendar says, that said, these with you have been my favorite, the more with you of everything the better, the more of life our way with no waitin’

it was not white nor blue,
this you Christmas
our second
another important common ground
we share, not gittin’ sentimental
about the holiday season
as with all things we encounter
we have it our way, startin’
our own traditions
we are not waitin’ on life,
life can wait on us

Pale Love, Pale Rider
found what i wanted
not under the tree,
actually,
there was no tree
but i got it anyway
no, not from Santy
and it was on Peachtree Street,
not 34th Street,
but it damn sure felt like a miracle
and it was not white or blue,
it was the best Christmas
with you

no more waitin’
made a choice
took a chance,
though really
not much of one
because i knew
quit relyin’ on the wind
or what the hell ever,
to make my way
“You know I always had you.
Just waiting for you to find
what you were looking for.”
no more pretendin’
all i am findin’ now is you

the fact that i get it
about you,
is the best thing
i have goin’ for me
no need to make
a list for Santy
no dreams
of any kinda Christmas
and no need to cue Elvis
i had my chance
at makin’ wishes
just took too long
to figure out
what i always wanted
i have all i want
here waitin’

it was white not blue,
this solitude Christmas
which suits just fine
really no better place
than here with you
endured to get here
at great cost
almost everything
but not lingerin’ there
checkin’ the cinch
ready to jump whatever
fences lie ahead
and takin’ you with me
need someone to talk to

cold, clear night walkin’
out to the edge of the caprock
under a star strewn sky
raked by the wind
standin’, waitin’
for somethin’, a sign
i imagine you comin’ closer,
your hair tossed by the wind
and the dark becomes desire
the nearness of you as i stand
on this lonely night waitin’
why do i believe you will come
out of nowhere
why with all that you can have
would you come only because i am here

I do not know
About y’all, but
This Santa needs
A good stiff drink

Today is the birthday of Hans von Bartels (Hamburg 25 December 1856 – 5 October 1913 Munich); painter.

Bartels is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. Although primarily an oil painter, he was also one of the leading German water-colour painters, mainly of marines and scenes of fishing life. He was the first to use watercolour paint of large formats without the earlier conventions. From 1887 Von Bartels came every summer to the Dutch coast, especially to Katwijk aan Zee, to paint the fisherfolk and their labour. He exceled in storm scenes and in depicting the strong, healthy fishing-folk of the northern coasts. He became an honorary member of leading English, German, Dutch, Belgian and Austrian art societies.
